Alamo Becomes Distributor
It looks like my favorite Austin-based movie experience chain has gotten into the film distribution business.
This can only be good news. The Alamo Drafthouse theaters highlight independent and offbeat films that don’t get a lot of exposure elsewhere.
First up is a farce about the war on terror by director Chris Morris called Four Lions.
The Alamo blog says:
Four Lions is a whip-smart laugh out loud comedy that illuminates the war on terror through satire and farce. Blitzing the notion that a comedy about jihadists is a contradiction in terms, the film grossed an astounding £3M at the UK box office and was hailed by critics as “a brilliant film – astonishingly funny” causing “so many different kinds of laughter its almost incredible”.
The film created positive buzz at several festivals, including South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin this year.
I look forward to seeing it at a local theater, as the closest Alamo Drafthouse location to me is in Winchester, VA — about 3 hours away.
